We all are ignorant about one thing or the other. It will be foolishness if we live in denial of this.
In your place of ignorance, don’t make a fool of yourself because people make silent conclusions about you, and you rarely ever get the opportunity to correct those conclusions.
I remember one day, in my first year of lecturing, I had a Sociology of Education class.
Now, one very interesting woman and somewhat “mighty” at the time came into my class and the following conversation ensued:
She: Oh you teach here now
Me: yes ma’am
She: what course do you teach?
Me: Sociology of Education
She: “Soshiology” not Sociology (she uttered with disdain and to hearing of my students).
Me: smiled.
She: walked away.
She trotted along, supposing that she had dispensed lexical wisdom to a lesser being.
I want to believe she now knows that the word is pronounced as /səʊʃɪˈɒlədʒi,səʊsɪˈɒlədʒi/ not Soshiology that she claimed.
Message: Leaders, stop gloating. It does nothing to you. And if you think you know, pass on your knowledge without that funny look.
Chill babe! We are all work in progress
